seo timescales

Having a website that is set up correctly for search engine optimisation (SEO) is a great start to seeing the site begin to rank higher in Google searches, but ongoing SEO and well-written content marketing is key for improving sales as part of your SEO strategy. Hear from Newcastle SEO expert Andy Thevarokiam on how SEO works:

Many of our clients ask us, “How long will it take to see results from your SEO work?” The answer is tricky. (You know we’d say that, didn’t you?)

In all honesty, we typically see a small spike immediately after performing the initial site audit and implementing the necessary changes to the website… but true results often take from 3-6 months.

Can you guess when we started working with this client?

You guessed it – May 2020.

The impact of SEO can depend on many factors regarding your website, including:

  • The content management system (CMS) – we recommend using WordPress.
  • How many web pages are on your site – usually, more is better.
  • How many blog posts are posted each month on your website – we recommend at least four new bits of content per month, with a minimum of 250 words each.
  • The speed of your site – we can tell from an SEO audit how fast your site loads and can implement plug-ins to help increase the speed, both for mobile and desktop visitors.
  • Whether your site is optimised for mobile devices.
  • Outside links to your site – Google takes it as a sign that your site is reputable if other people are linking to it. Part of our SEO work involves creating these links to your website.
  • How competitive your market is – if it’s highly competitive, we’ll likely recommend trying to rank for long-tail keywords. For example, we’d write a blog answering a question that your target market might search for in Google (see headline above as an example!)
  • Seasonal trends – if no one is searching for your products or services at a specific time of year, don’t fret. Ongoing SEO will still help in the long run!

There are loads of other highly technical aspects of your website that factor into your SEO – I won’t bore you with them (unless you’d like me to – drop me a line and I could bang on for days…)

So, how do we know that SEO is working?

Because it’s what we do. ?

We always set up conversion tracking, which is how we monitor where sales and/or enquiries come from. We will ensure this is set up correctly so that we can see how many actual results your business has had from certain consumer paths, like organic search.

‘Organic search’ is the phrase for people who have discovered your website via a Google search, for instance here at Podium, the phrase might be ‘SEO Newcastle.’

On a monthly basis, we will send you a report that we create from data in Google Analytics and some other SEO tools that we use. This will tell us where each of your desired keywords are ranking, on average, within Google search results. It will also outline how much your organic search traffic has increased, how long people spend on the site, etc. The report will compare annual data to see seasonal trends and also outlines the rest of any activity we are helping you with, like social media, pay per click (PPC) and creation of new blogs.

The best way to learn how long SEO takes is to get on the Podium and let us show you our results. Get in touch for a free SEO audit to discover how we can help!
