Twitter swamps Wetherspoons birthday boy

If any of you are a regular visitor of your local Wetherspoons pub, you may know about its amazing app, in which you can order drinks from the comfort of your own table, and have them delivered straight to you, thus avoiding lengthy bar queues and having to speak to anyone.

With this in mind, yesterday afternoon a guy called Rory decided to jump on Twitter and see if he could get any free drinks for his friend Nick, whose birthday it was.

Of course, the good people of Twitter were more than happy to send the birthday boy some free stuff, but in true British style, it wasn’t quite what they were expecting! An alcohol-free bottle of Beck’s Blue soon arrived:

A soft drink obviously wasn’t what they had in mind, so it continued…

Still gets better…

At least someone decided to get him something nice…

Prosecco, even better!

Things started to get ridiculous again…

The orders just kept coming…

The boys then decided it was time to move on…

Leaving the new residents of table 67 to deal with the delightful free beverages…

The pub staff themselves then decided to join in the conversation…

And birthday boy Nick even created a Twitter account just to thank everyone for their ‘generosity’.

Aside from the umpteen glasses of milk and the plate of peas (?!), it looks like Nick had a great birthday in the end, and the staff probably had a pretty good night too polishing off the remaining food!
